Just in Time Vocal Jazz Choirs in the Comox Valley
Just in Time Vocal Jazz Choirs were launched in September 2005 and are made up of adult singers of all ages and walks of life. The choirs offer a safe, warm, encouraging, uplifting environment where singers of all experience levels are welcome.
We are a community of singers that help to spread positive vibes and joy through singing for people of all ages.
The Unplugged group is an un-auditioned choir of around 55 singers, the Jazzy Jems are an auditioned group of about 10-12 women, and Vocal Minority is an auditioned SATB group of about 14 advanced singers. Auditions for the Jazzy Jems and Vocal Minority are held in June for the upcoming year.
We rehearse for 12 weeks (Fall and Spring sessions) then typically perform in early December and mid-April. Just in Time singers regularly host the Georgia Straight Jazz Society’s jazz night at the Elks’ home. The choirs are directed by Wendy Nixon Stothert and accompanied weekly by pianist Sean Mooney. At the concerts, the rhythm section is filled out by bass and drums and the auditioned groups perform on mic.
Just in Time sings music from a wide range of styles including swing, latin, ballads, pop, rock, funk, gospel and contemporary. The music tends to center around a theme. Past themes have included Songs of Love and Light, I Got Rhythm, Hurray for Hollywood, What a Wonderful World- Night and Day / Earth and Sky, and Fly!
